Polling Open (Right of Screen)

Polling is open to provide feedback for the following areas:
  • What do you think about our application name: VA MedPulse? (Don't forget to respond to the poll and provide suggestions in the comments section of this post)
  • Check out the VA MedPulse application dashboard. When you're done come back and provide feedback!
  • Do you think we're headed in the right direction?
Thank you for your support as we continue developing our application to present this afternoon at the 2015 Datathon Challenge!!

Check Out Version 2.1!!!

Thanks to all that answered the polls and provided additional feedback through email and comments.

Free, as in Speech (Cool Tools)

We're halfway through day 2 of the 2015 Datathon Challenge and want to provide some information on the tools and resources we used throughout the challenge.

The cool thing about VA MedPulse is that it is completely free for commercial use. VA MedPulse uses open source technology for application programming interfaces (API) and free community licenses. A few of the useful tools include:

Yes, we are Mobile Friendly :-)

Mobile First is a relatively new concept which is now being picked-up by a number of leading web design experts and is very much rooted as an emerging trend in modern web design. As the name suggests, mobile first is basically about designing and developing responsive websites for smaller screen sizes first; and then serving additional code for normal or larger screen sizes. Traditionally many web designers have built for desktop screen sizes first, and then applied supplementary code and adaptations for smaller screen sizes. Mobile-first reverses this idea and places emphasis on designing and building with mobile devices in-mind first.

Day 1 - Retrospective

The DMV Data Drivers are wrapping up day 1 of the Datathon Challenge by providing a retrospective for day 1.

Our electronic KANBAN Board (Rally Dev) shown below provides an overview of the work that was completed during day 1 of the challenge and the work that will continue into day 2.

Lessons Learned
  • Check hardware and system access
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of available data sets prior to the start
What Went Well
  • Integration of Agile methodology and tools under extreme time constraints
  • Overcame obstacles quickly when they were identified

Application Datasets - Sources

In this post the DMV Data Drivers will be tracking the sources and datasets used to create the VA MedPulse application.
